Sopore, January 24 (KNO) : Thousands of people on Thursday participated in the funeral prayers of three slain militants killed in an encounter with government forces in Binner area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday.

According to reports, despite restrictions, shutdown in the area, thousands of people braving snowfall including women and children attended the funeral prayers of slain militants in Baramulla, amid pro-freedom sloganeering. Shoaib Akhoon, a top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander of Khanpora, his two friends Mosin Mushtaq of Qazi Hamam and Nisar Darzi of Jamia Mohalla old town Baramulla were killed in a gunfight with government forces at Binner village of Baramulla on Wednesday.

An eye witness said that thousands of people from Baramulla areas and other adjoining localities assembled at old town to offer funeral prayers of slain militants.

In Khanpora village of Baramulla, large number of mourners shouting pro-freedom slogans carried slain commander Shoaib Akhoon's body in a procession to the graveyard for burial. In Old town Baramulla, slain Nisar and slain, Mohsin’s bodies were marched by thousands of mourners from their homes to a local graveyard where their funeral prayers were held. The slain trio were affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit.

A complete shutdown is also being observed in Baramulla district of North Kashmir to mourn the death of three militants. All the shops and other business establishment are closed while as traffic in old town is also off the roads. Notably, the media persons were also barred from covering the funeral prayers of slain LeT commander. "We were stopped at the Bridge connecting the area where funeral will take place.

They are not allowing us to cover Suhaib Akhoon’s funeral," a photojournalist, Mohammad Abu Bakar told KNO. Meanwhile, in wake of the killing of three militants, authorities suspended internet services in parts of Baramulla as ‘a precautionary measure’ to maintain law and order problem.(KNO)
